Summary: | A network methodology IPX-LAN is developed for factory floor cell level subnetwork in a flexible manufacturing system where personal computers are used as device and cell controllers. The network is based on the popular office network software, Novell NetWare's underlying protocol, Internet Exchange Protocol and Ethernet, a de facto standard. This methodology is independent of a file server and a network operating sys-tem. Network applications were built with the comprehensive set of C network libraries, resulting in an unlimited number of logically nodes that can be connected in the original NetWare environment. |
