Description
Summary:Production sequence and tolerance allocation are the two important activities in process planning. The production sequence determines the type of required processes and tolerance allocation generates the tolerance for each machining process in the production sequence. A production sequence is formed by several machining processes organized in a special sequential order to produce a mechanical part, or feature, to the designed shape and tolerance. Both production sequence generation and tolerance allocation play an important role in reducing production costs, through the identification of the optimal production sequence and the optimal process tolerances for all processes in the sequence. This thesis presents an approach that is capable of determining the optimal production sequence and its optimal process tolerances to achieve the least production costs.
