Summary:This project consist of two modules. The first part involves an empirical study to compare the returns of investment in IPOs with that of mature companies listed both on the Main Board and SESDAQ of the Stock Exchange of Singapore. The second section attempts to investigate the possible factors such as gearing, market capitalization and Price-Earning ratios, that may contribute to the phenomenon displayed from the result of the first study. The scope of this paper comprises of short-term returns and medium-term returns of investments in the stocks. In addition, comparison of short-term returns with the medium-term returns of the IPOs are also made. All Singapore-dollar based IPOs from 2nd January 1990 to 31st December 1995 are the object of this paper.
