Summary: | The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceived class climate of secondary school physical education lessons in Singapore. Two hundred and ninety-two (n = 292) subjects completed the 28 item Physical Education Class Climate Scale (PECCS) (Goudas & Biddle, 1994). Comparisons of class climate percep-tions were made between subjects on the bases of gender, age, academie ability, Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) in sport and influence of parents. There were no significant differences found on those bases. However, the findings support the work of Biddle (1994) and suggest that on the whole the study sample perceived a mastery learning orientation but that students' perception of performance orientation in physical education lessons was almost as strong as mastery orientations. |
