Description
Summary:The increase in the number of Total Knee Replacement surgical operations in Singapore and neighbouring Asian countries has highlighted problems with the current commercial prostheses. This led to the initiation of a project to develop a prosthesis that is more suitable for the Asian population. First, studies of the anatomy and biomechanics of the knee joint were undertaken; for this is the fundamental knowledge needed to design a replacement for the knee joint. By studying the designs of the past, their strengths and weaknesses, the learning curve was shortened.
