Summary: | Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) are increasingly being assembled in flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) which are controlled and operated through CAD, CAPP, CAM, MRP II, and other computer software systems. A major problem that hampers the full utilization of the potential of a PCB FMS is the sharing of information between the systems within the same FMS and the exchange of information between the FMS and external systems. A fundamental solution to this problem is seen to lie in the development of a common database which acts as the kernel for linking all the systems in the FMS. |
