Summary: | A Manufacturing Resource Planning System (MRP II) integrates long-term business strategies and short-term tactical plans. It plans and releases manufacturing orders to the shop floor while making sure that resources and all required materials, which includes manufactured and purchased parts, are available to fulfill finished production schedules and meet product deliveries deadlines. The inventory control and planning aspects of an MRP II system are fairly standardised and well understood. However, since most MRP II software packages are designed for general manufacturing environments, the capacity planning function is too general to be of effective use in each unique shop floor that exists in different companies. |
