Description
Summary:The media environment of Singapore is characterized by (i) a monopoly of the mainstream media and (ii) a media-dependent public. In addition, the environment in which the press operates, coupled with its stated role as an important conduit in the dissemination of news about government policies and philosophies, have resulted in a tendency among the general public to identify the press with the government. The agenda-setting function of the press in Singapore, particularly operating within the framework of such an environment, is the main focus of this study.
