Descriptive survey data and intensive interviews with journalists and academics in Macau and Hong Kong are presented along with traditional literature development. The paper, following Hong Kong press research, looks at values, ethics and freedom in press operation toward China with the cultural, economic and political impact to Macau journalism. Field conditions in Macau were very difficult and placed a limitation on survey and interview generalization, but intensive interviews gave substantial support for the study.
