Description
Summary:This paper serves to present a basic overview of commercial banking in Singapore, with special attention on the competition among the banks. The banks will be analyzed according to their market share, profitability, income, assets, and the areas which competition is likely to be present. Commercial banking in Singapore is largely dominated by three local banks: DBS, UOB, and OCBC. The three local banks dominate the deposit and loan businesses, but foreign banks are giving strong competition in other non-interest-generating areas. Such competition serves to enhance the quality and improve the variety of banking services in Singapore, while keeping prices at competitive levels.
