Summary:Enrichment of a desired population of cell from a pool of multispecies sample by cell sorting is an indispensable step in many cell-based studies. The current method utilizes expensive cell sorting instruments, which are based on flow cytometry methods and requires a comparatively large amount of reagents and samples. This work takes advantage of MEMS technology in developing and optimizing a low-cost passive microdevice, which analyses with reduced reagent volume at reduced analysis time. Different biochip designs were fabricated to study the effects of pumping mechanism, channel coating, and channel geometry on the efficiency of cell sorting on chip.
