Summary: | The DNA is the fundamental underlying principle responsible for differences between any two living organisms. However, understanding the 3 billion base pair human genome is highly arduous and requires sophisticated genomic analysis equipment such as the microarray. Illumina microarray, which uses advanced BeadArray Technology, is becoming increasingly popular due to its ability to produce more reliable results when compared to conventional microarray. Thus, Illumina microarray data is used for this study.
Genomic studies necessitate three simple criteria: precision, consistency and completeness. Thus, Illumina microarray data used for genomic analysis must fulfill the criteria. One variable that affects the criteria is the Scan Factor that controls the amount of incident light on the microarray chip during sample scanning.
In this project, the effects of different Scan Factor on the microarray data is studied using 3 defined statistical methods, S/N ratio, Dynamic Range and Illuminance intensity distribution. The report also provides a suggestion on incorporating different Scan Factors to improve the completeness and accuracy of the Illumina data. |
