The objective of the project is to apply queueing theory techniques on the manufacturing lines to define the buffer problems and reformulate it to a convenient form for analysis. The queueing system (M/M/s/K) is considered in which the service time of a pressure vessel entering service depends on the queue length. The arrival and service processes followed a Poisson distribution and the balance equations are given for the stationary probabilities of the Markov process. An explicit formula for the generating function of the distribution is obtained and the exact solutions for the stationary probabilities are constructed for the finite capacity system. The results demonstrate the usefulness of the queueing models in providing quantifiable parameters and buffer optimization to aid business decision.
