Summary: | In this thesis, new approaches and applications of volume modeling and Rapid Prototyping (RP) in medicine are investigated. An experimental volume modeling system is developed. StereoLithography (STL) models generated from this modeling system are fabricated by DTM Corporation's Sinterstation 2500 system. The complexity of certain medical models such as a skull model demands the use of RP. Medical applications of RP save both time and money, while enhancing the delivery of health care. Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems play an important role in this integration of imaging technology and RP technology. However, current CAD systems have limitations in handling these medical data. They cannot help RP to exploit its expanded application area in medicine. |
