Conventional travel survey methods have been difficult to apply due to various problems such as missing, invalid, inconsistent data and most commonly, non-participation. As a result, these travel surveys sometimes provide only limited or inaccurate travel information. The biggest challenge for travel surveys in the new millennium will be to obtain increasingly detailed, accurate, and timely data on daily travel patterns and at the same time, to minimise respondent burden and protect personal privacy.
