Description
Summary:The research project, Next Generation Optical Access Network, is a three-year project funded by NTU under the Research Grant for Manpower Scheme. This project aims to study technologies which can be used to implement cost-effective optical access networks. The studies include: 1. Using electronic error control schemes to mitigate the effects of noise, dispersion and nonlinearity which exist in high capacity optical access systems. 2. Developing efficient decoding schemes which have low delay, low com-plexity and thus suitable to be applied to high speed optical networks. 3. Using a novel multiple access control scheme in the upstream of Ether-net passive optical networks (EPONs) to provide differentiated service to both low-demand and high-demand customers according to the ser-vice level agreement (SLA).
