Description
Summary:The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a graphic record of the electrical activity of the heart. It is the primary tool in the diagnosis of cardiac conditions. Modem telemedicine systems require the storage and transmission of large quantities of ECG data. Efficient data compression is needed in order to reduce the quantities of data to be transmitted. Many ECG compression algorithms exist and an overview of the compression techniques is provided. The wavelet transform based algorithms have become the most active field of ECG compression in recent years. Since the wavelet transform plays a key role in the compression algorithm, the wavelet selection needs to be considered carefully.
