Summary:A DSP test platform is developed for the NTU, X-Sat, LEO microsatellite project. This will be useful for the development of DSP algorithms by the design team for the X-Sat. In addition, the test platform would enable benchmarking, and so test the efficiency of the developed algorithms. Though developed as a test platform, it adheres as closely as possible to the requirements that would be needed if it were launched into space. It also conforms to the tight physical integration requirements for the X-Sat. For this reason it was decided that functions such as HDLC serial links and EDAC to protect the memory system, be implemented with the ACTEL FPGA, which is known to withstand radiation in space. Protection systems have also been built to cater for events such as single event latchup from causing damage to the system. The features implemented would enable this DSP platform to serve as a prototype for the DSP payload that could be carried on board the X-Sat.
