In such networks, the design of the MAC protocol should be as simple as possible to free up network resources to handle the increased network control functions. The Packet Reservation Multiple Access protocol (PRMA) is particularly suitable for this requirement. In this thesis, we have proposed an enhanced version of PRMA-based protocol for multimedia services in wireless networks based on an initial study of the original PRMA-based protocol proposed by Elnoubi & Alsayh [l]. Although the original protocol is found to be effective, there are some time slots wasted due to the fixed number of the time slots reserved for video traffic and collisions caused by contention among data, voice and video users. The proposed protocol overcomes these limitations by fully utilizing the unused time slots reserved for video traffic for data transmission and by providing a collision-fi-ee scheme among data, voice and video users. Master of Science (Communications Engineering) 2008-09-17T09:28:49Z 2008-09-17T09:28:49Z 2005 2005 Thesis http://hdl.handle.net/10356/3376 Nanyang Technological University application/pdf
