With the relatively transparent accounting system for use of derivatives among Singaporean companies, we were able to obtain useful information for our study. In researching this topic, we hope to achieve the following objectives: 1. Identify the Singaporean companies that engage in corporate hedging using financial derivatives and classify them according to industry and risks hedged; 2. Find out why these companies use financial derivatives to hedge against currency and interest rate risks; and 3. Test if these companies are effective in satisfying the reasons for hedging, through identifying measurable indicators of success for each reason.
