sg-ntu-dr.10356-357902020-11-01T08:15:11Z Colonialism, institutions and paths of development : a comparative analysis of Brunei and Burma Narayanan Ramesh Deborah Kay Elms S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies DRNTU::Social sciences::Economic development::Brunei DRNTU::Social sciences::Economic development::Myanmar 36 p. The impact of institutions on the economic and political path development of countries is an area of key relevance in political economy. History provides a dynamic kaleidoscope through which one can study the importance of institutions that were created in the past and how they shaped the corresponding path development of countries. To merge these two areas of analysis between institutions and history leads to the research interest of this paper in the analysis of colonialism and the impact colonial institutions had on their colonies' paths of development. The objective of this thesis is to analyze and underscore the importance of institutions that were created historically and exemplify the impact they had on the later development of countries.
