A major weakness of current counter-strategies is the lack of understanding or the denial of the realities concerning the causes of jihadism. In particular, authorities have failed to grasp an understanding of their religious premise as much as knowing how their global networks have transgressed interstate borders. This knowledge becomes critical as studies show that the insurgencies in Iraq and Afghanistan are slowly developing into a war of ideas that will serve as a catalyst for the globalization of religious extremism if left unchecked.
