Friedrich Wun-Yuen Wu S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies DRNTU::Social sciences::Economic development::China DRNTU::Social sciences::Economic development::Singapore 86 p. The globalization of China's economy poses both challenges and opportunities to Singapore. With a large pool of skilled and unskilled labor force, China is able to compete in both labor- and technology-intensive industries. The rise of China's high-tech industries is especially crucial to Singapore because Singapore's high-tech industries contribute one-quarter to the GDP and employ one-fifth of the total labor force. This essay assesses the threat relations between China's and Singapore's high-tech industries by doing a comparative study in the vibrant semiconductor industry.
