sg-ntu-dr.10356-358572020-11-01T08:14:10Z Kashmir conflict : India, Pakistan and the role of security and identity. Sujoyini Mandal. Tan See Seng S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies DRNTU::Social sciences::Political science::International relations 57 p. The thesis deals with the conflict in Kashmir,4 and analyses the security and identity interests of the two major players-India and Pakistan. The above two epitaphs show two varying perceptions of the India-Pakistan relationship vis-a-vis Kashmir, and lays the framework for the thesis. To understand the intractability of peace in Kashmir, it is necessary to understand the two views upon which the thesis rests. While the first quote by Aziz, displays the inherent difference between the two nations, as espoused by the Muslim League5 pushing for a separate Pakistani nation on cultural, linguistic, religious, historical differences (subsequently epitomized in a different national identity based on the religion of Islam), the second offers a realist view suggesting that threat perception and security considerations are the reason why there is perpetuation of conflict in Kashmir.
