The prominence of non-traditional threats in the era of globalisation has clearly shifted the focus of security. The activities of globalisation have diluted the importance of territorial possession in favour of economic dominance. In Singapore, defending its territorial boundaries remains a prime agenda but heightened concerns over issues of terrorism, flu pandemics, as well as natural disasters have led the government to place more emphasis in combating these non-traditional threats. Treading on the issue of a changing security environment, the Singapore Armed Forces is embarking on its transformation route to become a third generation fighting unit. The transformation of the military organisation leverages on technology as a force multiplier to overcome its shortage of manpower.
