The report focuses on the development of the banking industry in China. An analysis was carried out on the strategies that were taken by an American bank, Citigroup, a U.K. bank, Standard Chartered Bank, a German bank, Deutsche Bank and a Singapore bank, DBS. The evaluation was based on the banks publicly-available information. Each took different strategies in their entry into the Chinese banking markets. The strategies of using alliance and organic growth were discussed. In the growing Chinese market where the economy is growing in an uninterrupted and fastspaced manner, it might be necessary to concurrently focus on the two strategies. The evaluation indicated that Deutsche Bank is not establishing itself as a strong player in comparison to Citigroup and Standard Chartered Bank. In the final analysis, the strategies that could be taken by DBS were also discussed.
