The cantilever arm (head) of a hard disk drive (HDD) should make exactly circular track. However "off track errors" of heads are caused by Non-repeatable run out (NRRO). This NRRO defects percentage is around 1.5 percent of total failure rates in the overall hard disk motor industry. The bearing design of hard disk drive (HDD) motor influences its performance. To achieve both requirements of high precision and low cost - fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) is suggested as a suitable choice. The active oil film in FDB prevents the contact of bearing and shaft.. FDB performance in terms of run out, noise and power consumption is far superior over porous sleeve bearings and ball bearings.
