In this project, empirical approach was taken to study the thermocapillary effect for droplet-based microfluidic. Droplets are generated in microchannel by introducing DI water as a dispersed phase and mineral oil as continuous phase. A detailed study of the effect of heat induced microchannel on the droplet formation, droplet splitting and droplet sorting was carried out in this project. The characteristic of the water-in-oil microdroplet results from heating of the entrance T-junction channel and exit T-junction bifurcation channel was studied. The Flow Manager Program and the CCD camera with fluorescent illumination system were mainly utilized to document the effect of heat applied on the droplet inside the microchannel.
