This dissertation project proposes a multi-sensors fusion technique for EDM (electro-discharge machining) process to verify electrodes. In the mould making process, inevitable human errors can arise in the identification, authentication, measurement, recording, programming and arrangement of electrodes prior to EDM process. The focus of this dissertation is to design a robust and reliable verification technique that can effectively eliminate these errors so that the performance of the EDM process can be further enhanced particularly for high value engineered moulds with complex cores and cavities. A multi-sensors fusion technique that uses a cost effective array of barcode, RFID and proximity sensors is proposed for the verification and sequence authentication of electrodes before they are loaded on an automatic tool changer ATC of an EDM machine.
