Adenocarcinoma of the prostate is the sixth most common malignancy in Singaporean men and third leading cause of cancer death in men, after lung cancer and colorectal cancer in America. It is estimated that, in 2006, an estimated 234,460 new cases and 27,350 prostate related deaths will occur in the United States. The incidence of fatality due to prostatic cancer has been going downtrend for the past 5 years partly attributable to earlier diagnosis and improvements in treatment, which has led to a yearly drop in death rate of about 3.5 percent in recent years. Indeed the figure remains prominently as a medical and socioeconomic concern especially on a global scale.
