Scaffold structures play a vital role in tissue engineering by guiding the process of tissue regeneration and development. They are used to achieve cell delivery and to provide mechanical support against compressive and tensile forces, thus maintaining the shape and integrity of the structures when implanted into the body. Important micro and macrostructure requirements of tissue engineering scaffolds are pore interconnectivity, porosity, pore diameter and mechanical properties of the intended structures. Several techniques like fiber bonding, phase separation and salt-leaching were adopted for the development of tissue engineering scaffolds.
