In the first part of this project, the stratified two-fluid flow in microchannel under pressure gradient and electroosmosis was studied experimentally and analytically. Experimentally, the interface location control between two fluids under electroosmosis effect was investigated using fluorescein imaging techniques. The micro particle image velocimetry (micro-PIV) was utilized to study the velocity profile of the two fluids quantitatively under different flow conditions, such as flow rate and applied electric field. Theoretically, the electrical potential distribution in the microchannel was solved. The fully developed velocity profile of the two fluids have also been obtained by solving the modified Navier-Stokes equation.
