Today manufacturing system needs comprehensive maintenance technology and methodology that enable the zero downtime system failure. The system breakdown impairs the cooperate objectives of manufacturing cost, product quality, new product introduction speed and environmental safety. To accomplish minimum downtime, various research has been carried out in recent years with the emphasis of preventive and predictive maintenance. Condition based maintenance is one kind of predictive maintenance system, used to detect the faults of the system only when they are occurred or likely to occur. While the underlying fault detection methodologies and techniques are becoming mature, the condition based maintenance techniques are enhanced with high level decision-making features such as diagnostics and prognostics.
