The goal for a peaceful rise requires China (interchangeable with Peoples Republic of China or PRC) to build a harmonious society domestically and foster externally a peaceful international environment conducive for her economic development. However, domestic harmony is challenged by the independence movement in Taiwan (interchangeable with Republic of China or ROC) that could escalate into military conflict. The need to secure energy supplies internationally to sustain her economic development has also led China into competing for international resources with her neighboring countries and the USA, brewing up potential conflict of interests with these countries. The causal relationship between domestic harmony and international peace is both ways for China in which peaceful international environment supports domestic harmony and domestic stability contributes to international peace. Harmonious society at home and harmonious world order therefore mutually promotes or affects each other. Failure of one harmonious order would impact upon the other seriously and disrupts China's peaceful rise.
