sg-ntu-dr.10356-361472019-12-10T11:13:34Z Cross straits relations : econification first, reunification later. Ng, Connie Yin Yin. Luo Qi School of Humanities and Social Sciences DRNTU::Humanities::History::Asia::China DRNTU::Humanities::History::Asia::Taiwan 66 p. The Cross Straits issues have been a delicate issue between China and Taiwan. The Chinese government aims for a reunification under the 'One China' policy while Taiwan wants to be an independent sovereign state recognized internationally. The Chinese government wants Taiwan to be under the sovereignty of China while Taiwan wants to be an independent state after reunification with China. The only common grounds for both governments are the economic cooperation and linkages binding them. The political differences and pressures of the two governments have caused economic damage to both economies with Taiwan suffering more. The economic cooperation between the China and Taiwan has been close and deep. Economic cooperation and integration can be a platform for China and Taiwan to enhance cooperation with each other and to ease the political tensions between the countries. Enhanced and in-depth cooperation can path a way for both countries to head towards reunification with trust being built up.
