Performance study on protocols supporting multimedia traffic on WDM optical network

In the project, we evaluate a new approach to integrate different types of medium access protocols into a single WDM network system. The new MAC protocols are termed multimedia wavelength division multiple access (M-WDMA) and M-WDMA+. The performance comparisons between M-WDMA+ and conventional prot...

The new MAC protocols are termed multimedia wavelength division multiple access (M-WDMA) and M-WDMA+. The performance comparisons between M-WDMA+ and conventional protocols, such as interleaved time division multiple access (ITDMA) protocol, reservation-based protocol and interleaved slotted aloha (ISA) protocol are presented. The thesis also presents the performance comparison between M-WDMA+ and another new MAC protocol, convergence of real-time and data services (CONRAD) protocol. In addition, we estimate the performance of M-WDMA+ under unbalanced traffic conditions in the project. From the performance comparisons and analysis, it can be concluded that M-WDMA+ is suitable for multimedia streams transmission. Master of Science (Communications Engineering) 2008-09-17T09:37:27Z 2008-09-17T09:37:27Z 2003 2003 Thesis http://hdl.handle.net/10356/3783 Nanyang Technological University application/pdf
