Dr Derek Doyle, a British physician, once likened palliative care to a platform ticket. Rather than boarding the train, this ticket allows well-wishers to journey with their loved ones as far as the platform, one step further than most before the departure. We looked into some reasons why staff in this line of work found much satisfaction in it, the challenges people face in caring for an ill loved ones and also the challenges and developments in Singapore's palliative care sector, including hospices. Through documenting these journeys on the brink, we found love and sacrifice, courage and strength worth acknowledging.
