Concomitantly, the purpose is to express the value of females in the eyes of a political and social-classed Singapore by using the symbolism of the chinese tree peony and its modern translated representation as a part of a female’s rite of passage – the coming of age, the 21st birthday. Along with the changes of society values from male dominance to equality, I intend to juxtapose the characteristics of the chinese tree peony against females and their responsibilities and expectations in our modern society. Concomitantly, the purpose is to express the value of females in the eyes of a political and social-classed Singapore by using the symbolism of the chinese tree peony and its modern translated representation as a part of a female’s rite of passage – the coming of age, the 21st birthday.
Despite the stereotyped oriental symbolism of the flower, I want to break away from the traditional discrimination of the chinese tree peony in our modern society, especially in the eyes of the younger generations, through a series of novelty translations of the flower into my artwork, and finally be able to gain acceptance in the younger generation. |
