Summary: | Arsenic contamination in groundwater is widespread and it is causing a serious environmental and health issue around the world. With Bangladesh having the worst mass population arsenic poisoning, as many as 40 million Bangladeshis have chronic arsenic poisoning due to contaminated drinking water. Many arsenic removing technologies like ion exchange, filtration, membrane and adsorption have been developed but adsorption is more preferred as it is lower in cost as compared to the rest. Important factors like pH level, presence of competing anions and oxidation state of arsenic in the aquatic system will affect arsenic adsorption efficiency of adsorbents. This report covers the review on the chemistry of arsenic, adsorption method of removing arsenic, factors affecting arsenic adsorption and finally comparing the arsenic removal capacity different adsorbents by different studies. |
