Compatibility and equilibrium approach to design of slender concrete columns

This project uses a theoretical formula to study the behaviour of slender high strength concrete columns which are pin-ended and subjected to a short term bending about the minor axis. It gives a good estimation for concrete with strength of 100 N/mm² to 120 N/mm², but underestimates the strain for...

Software program such as Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 is used in this case, to create into a programming code to allow us to identify out the failure loads of slender reinforced concrete columns subjected to eccentric end loading. Maximum concrete compressive strain εcc, & maximum steel tensile strain, εst of a slender high strength concrete columns is displayed onto the result in Fig 1. A numerical example was given and to improvise into software code based on it. Details of the analysis process are displayed in the flowchart of Fig 2. Assumption is given in the first iteration where user assumes the iteration steps, Δxº as 0.5mm and xjº as two times the depth of the column. Failure load, Nmax is also assumed. In this case, x1 is created and shows 341.9776 mm instead of 371.9099 mm.
