By attempting to find out how voice memories help in visual recall, I asked my family members to recall individual voices of one another and the visual imageries that were brought about during the voice recollection. These images and voices were then recorded and re-interpreted into the installation piece, projected into a custom space. In the installation set-up, the projectors are specifically made to project images based on specified time intervals. The piece is inspired from the previous interest in attempting to visually depict different sound that a group of hearing impaired participants desire to hear. Approaching the project with the intention of creating a multi-sensory experience for them, I created a multimedia installation piece titled “First Sound”, using a custom vibration device and video projection to simulate hearing experience. The piece is intended for people to touch the vibration caused by the sound while experiencing the video so that they could both ‘see’ and ‘feel’ the sound at the same time. In the series of research that spans from a period of two years, I am interested in examining how spaces affect the way images are being experienced and viewed. I also investigate closely the different representation of images, hoping to use visual image in a purposeful and experiential form.
