Description
Summary:Coarse and fine aggregates are the basic components in the production of concrete and coarse aggregates are the basic determinant for the strength of the concrete. A good distribution of the aggregates size is needed to ensure excellent interlocking. It will provide friction at many points of contact between the aggregates. Furthermore, the amount of voids will be reduced, as the smaller aggregates will fill into the voids created by the bigger ones. With the difficulties faced in importing aggregates into Singapore and as the world becomes more environmentally-conscience, the idea of replacing normal aggregates with recycled ones are getting much more attentions than ever before. But as the properties of recycled aggregates are inferior to that of conventional ones, we need to find out how will the strength of concrete be affected. We will also look into water absorption aspect of the concrete. We will be looking at what effects will there be on the strength of concrete, with a varying percentage replacement for both the coarse and fine. Test will be done for both normal strength concrete as well as high strength concrete. We will be using superplasticiser to achieve high compressive strength.
