Photogrammetry and deformation of tubular connections
This final year project examines the testing of steel tubular members in elevated temperatures. However, it is difficult to obtain deflection from the steel member under the harsh conditions of the test. As a result non-traditional methods need to be utilized to realize these tests. The project exam...

However, it is difficult to obtain deflection from the steel member under the harsh conditions of the test. As a result non-traditional methods need to be utilized to realize these tests. The project examines a potential candidate, Photogrammetry. In order to be used, photogrammetry must be accurate enough, easy to operate and cheaper than harsh-temperature LVDTs. The project focuses on establishing the accuracy of photogrammetry through a series of test which compare the photogrammetry results against LVDT readings. In the process of the experiment, a methodology of using photogrammetry was developed, and the concerns about the technology, distortion of image due to convection currents in the oven and damage from heat were not critical issues. In short, photogrammetry proved to be viable in use for the tests and a possible substitute for other civil engineering measurement purposes.
