A low power, low voltage segmented thermometer coded current steered digital to analog converter(DAC) is designed using Cadence 0.18-um technology. Power efficient architecture and high speed operation are obtained using the current steering DAC. The DACs performance is affected because of certain non-linearities like Differential Non-Linearity, Integral Non-Linearity issues and glitches. These are problems that deviate the output from the ideal value. A thermometer coded technique is engaged to avoid the poor linearity problem and the glitch effects. The circuit is made to work with a low voltage supply of 1.8 V. The present day applications of DAC need good resolution. As the resolution increases, accuracy improves. A 10-bit accuracy is chosen in this project, to provide a sufficient resolution. The 10-bit binary input is thermometer coded by using two binary to thermometer coded decoder.
