Summary: | Reinforced concrete flat plate structures have been widely used for residential and office buildings around the world due to their economical and aesthetical advantages over the conventional beam and slab system. However, the transfer of shear and unbalanced moment at the slab-column connections may result in a sudden and brittle punching failure at these connections. Thus, the economy of the flat plate structure depends on the degree to which the ultimate strength of the slab-column connections can be predicted and utilized. |
