This thesis leverages on the Dalai Lama Incident and the Freezing Point Saga, exploring the differences of media control over international and domestic issues, as well as the different measures towards domestic and international media taken by the government. Rapid developments and economic growth in China have attracted much attention from the world, which a new trend is evolving, where local news now has increasing foreign readers. Several domestic issues are now gathering heightened attention in the international arena. The implementation of the spokesperson system, the openness policy, the wide spread of internet culture such as blogging and social networks, together with China’s internalisation, has fostered many changes in China’s media policies.
