Description
Summary:Malacca, famous for its rich historical context, is one of the famous tourist hot spots globally. Well known for its port since 15th century, Malacca rose from a humble fishing village to a major centre of the spice trade forming a vital link between the East and the West. In 1511, the first of many foreign invasions of Malacca took place when the Portuguese arrived. The city was surrendered to the Dutch in 1641 and followed by British’s invasion in 1795. On the 7th July of 2008, Malacca received its recognition as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Nevertheless, conservation issues on both historical buildings as well as the preservation of its living culture continue to arise. The feature writing aims to examine and discuss the current issues as well problems faced in conservation works.
