Summary: | Biopolymeric fibrous scaffolds made from biodegradable materials serves to mimic the extracellular matrix (ECM) which provides the cells with the appropriate biological environment for embryologic development, organogenesis, cell growth, and wound repair.
In this report, the author would review the different techniques that are applied to construct the fibrous scaffolds, the different experimental parameters involved as well as the different types of commonly used materials.
Furthermore, the report would also summarize the research work the author had done for the final year project. The work includes the use of electrospinning technique for fabrication of gelatin and collagen fibers as well as the characterization of these fibers. In addition, the author also investigated the application of the Transglutaminase (mTG)as the crosslinking enzyme for gelatin and the use of photochemical method for crosslinking of collagen fibers. |
