Summary: | In this project, we are tasked to create a 3-dimentional (3D) virtual model using digital camera and commercial photomodelling software. The ultimate purpose of this project is to accurately create a 3D virtual model of either natural or man-made structures. The target that we have chosen to do is the Transport and Spatial information Laboratory within NTU. Another task of our project also includes comparing the accuracy of the virtual model and the real physical dimension itself. The 3D model of the exterior of the laboratory will be covered by the author while his fellow project mate will be responsible for the interior section. Various pictures of the laboratory were first taken and uploaded into the photomodelling software. The model was created in sections with subsequent portion added progressively. The cameras used in this project were Canon Digital Ixus 70 (interior) and Canon DSLR 500D (exterior) and the images taken were processed by Photomodeler 6.0 software. This report shall cover a brief background of Photogrammetry, the technical procedure for capturing the images, the challenges faced through this project, comparisons between the results obtained by the two different cameras and the reason behind the difference. Finally, the accuracy of the model will be compared to readings taken from a Total Station. For this report, only the section which was done by the author will be covered. Some other trial targets that we have done includes fire station, NTU N2 building and a three pin plug. More details will be covered in chapter 2 of this report. |
