It has been resurfacing periodically since then and has been a controversial topic. This final year project serves to discuss and analyse the feasibility of the Kra Canal and its alternative idea, the land bridge. The project will also examine the impact the Canal could have on Singapore if it were to be built. Firstly, background information on the Kra canal, Strait of Malacca and also the reasons for the Canal will be discussed. Then the feasibility of the Canal will be discussed in terms of various factors, including political, social, economic and environmental. This will be followed by a discussion of the feasibility of the Land Bridge. A number of interviews were conducted with professionals from the marine industry, to solicit their views. These views were collated and analysed, and factored into our discussions. Three major sectors of the shipping industry, namely container, tanker and dry bulk are considered in this study, and each of the three members of our team is looking after one sector. This report looks at the tanker sector.
